About COGEF

More than 50 years serving the Burkinabè private sector

More than 50 years at the heart of Burkina Faso’s economic development

The General Confederation of Enterprises of Faso (COGEF), the Burkinabè Employers’ Association, is the umbrella organization of employers in Burkina Faso. It is a professional employers’ union that represents them and defends their interests before public authorities, development partners, and trade unions of workers.
A framework for action, representation, coordination, liaison, and information in support of the private sector as a whole, COGEF constitutes a united force, a force for representation, proposal, negotiation, and services.
Created in 1974 and officially recognized in 1976, its purpose is to defend the material, moral, and professional interests of its members. Through this purpose, it aims to:

  • Contribute to establishing, in Burkina Faso and in the sub-region, a more favorable environment for the expansion of the private sector with a view to promoting economic and social development;
  • Establish partnership relations with public authorities and development partners in order to promote consensus-building in support of reforms and to qualitatively change attitudes toward private initiative;
  • Strengthen the analytical and advocacy capacities of professional associations and businesses, with a view to fostering economic and social progress in order to eradicate poverty;
  • Improve the internal management of businesses and professional groups, notably through the preparation and dissemination of the necessary studies and the implementation of corresponding training resources;
  • Ensure private-sector leadership in the implementation of policies and strategies dedicated to education, employment, and training;
  • Ensure representation of the private sector before public authorities, donors, public opinion, and the various socio-economic circles, and workers’ trade unions.
